Mary Kate + Colton | Little Rock, AR Engagements

Mary Kate and Colton chose Little Rock as the backdrop for their engagements – and it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for this fashionista! Mary Kate is a fashion blogger! How fun right?! And I found out that Colton is usually her photographer! So they’re very familiar with how photoshoots go! I don’t need to say this but they were NATURALS! So comfortable in front of the camera and so sweet and intentional with their interaction with one another. They took all of my ideas and just ran with them – bringing each pose to life perfectly in their own unique way! And lets just talk about that sunset – no exaggeration – it is the prettiest one I have photographed at the end of an engagement session. We can’t wait to hang out wit them more!

Drew + Kevin | Snoqualmie Falls, Washington Wedding

SNOQUALMIE FALLS WEDDING – WASHINGTON

Very close friends of ours from Arkansas celebrated their wedding almost 1,800 miles from home on May 25, 2017. Drew and Kevin planned a vacation with a few friends and on whim decided that Snoqualmie Falls, just outside of Seattle would be the perfect spot for their wedding. They asked family and friends what they thought about them turning their vacation into a wedding trip – so many friends and family were on board and everything started to fall into place.

They invited close friends and family – and expected a small number of guests to attend – but close to 30 guests flew in from all over the country. Their ceremony took place literally on top of the falls, in a room right off the side of the lodge. It was perfect! Drew and Kevin decided to walk in together to signify the bond that they are one, we loved this so much. Kevin’s mom was in attendance and smiling from ear to ear the entire day. For Jaison and I, it was such a special day – we loved capturing these photos K&D!

The couple did a live stream of the ceremony on Facebook for those who could not attend.

& Nature showed off a bit with a rainbow behind them during their portraits (THIS WAS NOT PHOTOSHOPPED!) Amazing, right?!

As you can see from all of the hugs and love – these two were surrounded by the best company. There were laughs, tears and a lot of love.

The week leading up to the wedding many of the guests flew in early and our group explored seattle with one another – going to the original Starbucks, Pike’s Place Market, the gum wall, the troll, the original house that inspired the movie Up!; and more!

Unique elements from the day that we love:

The rainbow in the portraits of course!!!!!!

Their suits were custom made in Conway, Arkansas by Bell & Sward, a local small business.

The wine they served was made by Salish lodge itself.

Words from the groom (one of them):

The Wedding – (In Drew’s Words) We’d originally planned to return to the resort where we got engaged for our wedding. Ultimately we decided we’d rather stay domestic to allow some of our friends to be there. In January, we were returning from a trip to one of our favorite places: Seattle. On the plane, I asked Kev “if we could get married anywhere in the country, where would you choose?” I had already given this some thought and knew that Snoqualmie Falls just outside of Seattle would be my choice. He thought for a moment and then said “You know, I think I’d choose Snoqualmie.” At this point, we already had a trip to Seattle with 2 of our closest friends booked for May. I asked him, “What if we just got married while we’re there in May?” Quickly he said “that could work, as long as my mom could be there.” We called Debbie (Kevin’s mom) and she said she wouldn’t miss it. We then invited about 30 of our friends, thinking with such short notice (less than 2 months) we may have 10-15 people there. Much to our surprise, 30 of our closest friends from across the country were able to join us.

Our wedding was flawless. We wanted a very simple ceremony that felt warm and chill – just like we try to be in all of our relationships. Salish Lodge & Spa is nestled at the top of Snoqualmie Falls. We booked a small outdoor venue there that overlooked the falls, and had our reception in the Lodge’s atrium. The ceremony was short, sweet, and intimate. We streamed it on Facebook live so our friends who weren’t able to join in person were able to attend at home.

After the wedding and reception, Kev and I were in our room talking about how perfect the day felt and what we most enjoyed. We were so thankful that so many of our closest friends were able to be there and just share a low-key, fun day with us. The dinner (and open bar!) at the lodge were fantastic. Our friends shared stories of our experiences with them and well-wishes for our lives together. Between this and the gorgeous photos from the lodge, we couldn’t have asked for more!

The Proposal – (In Drew’s Words) We got engaged at a small resort in the Dominican Republic in July of 2016. I’d booked a romantic dinner on the beach that was supposed to be a surprise for Kev. When we checked in at the resort, they said “we have dinner romantica for you on Saturday, yes?” I played it off to Kev as “something we hadn’t done before that’d be fun to do.” He trusted me and had no idea! I proposed on the beach with guitarists playing behind us and the ocean rushing next to us. I remember shaking the whole time, and in the video we have, as soon as he says yes you me exhale and start to breathe again. Definitely the most anxious moment (but good anxious!) of my life. Kevin says he freaked out when he realized I was proposing and heard nothing I said, and tuned back in just in time to say “this is where I say yes, right?”

Quotes from Vendors:

Desi Jean Buchanan – event planning – Salish Lodge

“Drew & Kevin are the perfect example of clients-turned-friends. From the beginning of the planning process up to the moment they walked down the aisle together, they were kind & so genuine. Their joy was infectious – to their guests, my staff, & especially to me. I am so thrilled to have played a small role in this special day!

Salish Lodge & Spa is the iconic Pacific Northwest venue. Nestled at the base of the Cascade Mountains on the top of the incredible Snoqualmie Falls, it is a gorgeous backdrop for a special celebration. Plus, the perfect anniversary spot: state-famous brunch, full spa, fireplaces in each guest room, & a staff completely focused on giving you personal & friendly service.”

Savannah Kirkdoffer Quote  Hybrid Hair Studio) – flew in from Arkansas to do both Drew and Kevin’s hair

Savannah Kirkdoffer – Hybrid Hair Studio

“Kevin and Drew both started out as clients but quickly grew to something more. They have become some of my closest friends and a couple that I personally look up to and admire. There was no way I would miss there wedding and definitely no way I would not help them look there absolute best on such an important day. I truly love my craft and being able to be apart of such a beautiful time in their life.”

Lodge/Venue info

Snoqualmie Falls is a 268-foot waterfall in the northwest United States, located east of Seattle on the Snoqualmie River between Snoqualmie and Fall City, Washington

Snoqualmie Falls is one of Washington state’s most popular scenic attractions. More than 1.5 million visitors come to the Falls every year. At the falls, you will find a two-acre park, gift shop, observation deck, the Salish Lodge and the famous 270 foot waterfall.

History

A brief history of Snoqualmie Falls

Courtesy Seattle PI – Thursday, February 6, 2003

“Several thousand years ago, when the glaciers receded, they left a fertile plain near Snoqualmie Falls. When Native Americans arrived, they found a bounty of edible bulbs, roots and berries on the prairie. Deer and mountain goats were plentiful.

Though there were no salmon above the falls, the upper Snoqualmie River became a seasonal rendezvous and meeting place as trade among native peoples increased. The Snoqualmie Tribe (a subgroup of the Coast Salish) established a camp at the base of Mount Si. They also established villages at Fall City and Tolt (Carnation).

Snoqualmie is the English pronunciation of “sah-KOH-koh” or “Sdob-dwahibbluh,” a Salish word meaning moon. As a spiritual place, it gave birth to many legends. One tells of “S’Beow” (the beaver), who climbed into the sky to bring trees and fire down to earth. The Native Americans who roamed the valley were known as people of the moon.

White settlers began to arrive in the valley by the early 1850s. Long before, the falls became a tourist destination; pioneer women would edge as close to the falls as they could while friends held on to their dresses to keep them from falling. Jeremiah Borst was the first permanent white settler in the Snoqualmie Valley and is known to some as “the father of the Snoqualmie Valley.”

Josiah Merrit (“Uncle Si”) built a cabin at the base of a local peak in 1862 (the peak became known as Uncle Si’s mountain — now Mount Si). He raised vegetables and hogs and kept an orchard. According to local historians, he was a rugged man who sometimes hauled bacon to the large settlements.

To do so necessitated hauling the load on a sled to the river, canoeing downstream, strapping the load to his back and climbing down the 268-foot falls, hiking several miles, and then canoeing the rest of the way to Everett or Seattle.

By 1877, there were several logging operations in the region. In early days, logs were floated over the falls and down the river to Everett and Puget Sound. By 1889, entrepreneurs funded and built a railroad (the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern) into the valley, opening up timber resources to the world market.

In 1889, the town of Snoqualmie was platted by Charles Baker, a civil engineer. He also constructed an underground power plant at the falls in the 1890s (those original generators are still functioning today). The power plant resulted in electricity and jobs for locals, and soon a small company town was established at the falls. In 1911, a second powerhouse was constructed.

Such large waterfalls often attract daredevils. When that first passenger train arrived in 1889, it was a big event — more than 1,000 people turned up for food, celebration and entertainment. A Mr. Blondin successfully walked a tightrope over the falls.

In 1890, Charlie Anderson was less fortunate. He parachuted into the canyon from a hot-air balloon, but when he opened the chute a strong air current pushed him toward the falls. As the crowd watched in horror, another gust pulled him in another direction and dropped him on a large boulder; he died that night.”

Savannah + Matt Boyce | Little Rock, AR Wedding

Savannah and Matt were one of the first couples to get married in the newly remodeled Robinson Center in Little Rock; and this wedding was for sure one for the books! Their April wedding was so much fun!

We officially met Savannah & her mom  through CrossFit Align in NLR, where we all workout together. But, we have known the Harrington family as a whole for a while; dating back to our high school roots when Jaison and I went to school with Savannah’s older brother – Danny. We also photographed her sister Maddie, at football games when she was a NLRHS cheerleader; (and her cousin’s own the gym I was talking about; so we have lots of ties to this sweet family!)

It was really fun getting to know these two even better through the entire wedding process. From engagements, to bridals and then the wedding day – they were nothing but amazing to work with!

They both are tap dancers so their ‘first dance’ was of course an AWESOME tap number! We especially loved Savannah’s custom bedazzled tap wedding shoes! (all the heart eyes)! And her dress was literally one of a kind, designed by the fabulous Laine Berry of Inverness in Conway.

If you can’t tell they were in pure wedding bliss all day long and celebrated with friends and family at an amazing reception! Thank you so much for choosing us as your wedding photographers, we love you both (and your family) to the moon! So thankful our friendship will continue through CrossFit! <3

Cara Erwin Schaefer | Little Rock, AR Bridals

Happy Sunday! Today Cara is flying out of the country for her honeymoon with Boyd; and that means I am allowed to share her bridal portraits! Yay!

We had such a fun time with her mom, sisters and bridesmaids during this session. We all laughed so much and Cara looked like a true princess – it was a perfect day! This girl shines inside and out, and her family is so kind. It was a joy getting to work with them.

Their wedding yesterday was also so wonderful! Rain was originally predicted all day, but it held off until we got to the indoor reception in the evening, so we were able to get a lot of amazing photos outside with her and Boyd, as well as the bridal party – we can’t wait to edit them and show them off! For now, I will share her sweet bridal session that we did at the Terry House! These white blooms only pop up for a very short time each year, for about 2 weeks and we timed these perfectly to capture them for her session.

Olivia Stone Bundrick | North Little Rock, AR Bridals

To say I am obsessed with Olivia’s bridals is an understatement! She was so fun to work with and so laid-back! When a bride trusts us whole heartedly throughout the shoot, it shows, and I think we always do our best work when we can have fun and be creative — and she let us do exactly that! We had the best time; and this beautiful bride was the perfect subject! Her dress looked like it was made just for her! And her gorgeous bouquet was the perfect pop of spring colors! She recently celebrated her wedding to Jacob in California, and we were honored that she asked us to do her bridals for her before she left for her gorgeous west coast wedding! <3 So thrilled with how these turned out and we are excited to share them with you!

Abbey + Kyle Lusinger | Little Rock, AR Maternity

It’s not every day that your best friend is pregnant; and not every day that you get to photograph her maternity photos! This was the first baby for Abbey and Kyle and Jaison and I could not be happier.

We have photographed so many special memories for them (Christmas photos, the proposal, engagements, bridals, wedding, maternity, birth and now new newborn photos) — capturing these moments have been some of the sweetest times we have all shared as a family; because that is what these two are to us – family.

Kaden Lusinger made his way in to this world on St. Patrick’s Day — a day we will all remember and cherish! We have loved being aunt Callie and uncle Jay and can’t wait to wait that sweet baby grow! We did his newborn photos this last week and I can’t believe it has already been two weeks since he was born! I just thought to myself, oh my gosh I need to share Abbey’s maternity session on our blog because time is flying by! I photographed his birth and that was one of the most life changing sweet moments I have ever experienced.  Loved capturing this sweet moment for Abbey and Kyle & all of their future moments to come <3

Kaitlin + Nash | Great Gatsby Themed Wedding – Hot Springs, AR

Kaitlin and Nash got married this past October, near Halloween, and instead of a traditional Halloween themed wedding – they had something a little different in mind. Great Gatsby was a reoccurring theme from their day; from the bridesmaids dresses, accessories, and reception decor – everything looked like it was right out of the 1920s.

We loved that they had a unique element to their ceremony – the blessing of their rings by all in attendance. We have been photographing weddings since 2010 and we have never seen this done, and we loved it. The ceremony took place at Anthony Chapel in Garvan Gardens and we headed to The Arlington Hotel in downtown Hot Springs for their reception. The groom’s cake had a topper that Kaitlin handmade with modeling cay for his favorite band, the Grateful Dead. They danced the night away and departed with a sparkler exit. We loved capturing these sweet moments!

Amanda Conn | Little Rock, AR Bridals

On this snowy afternoon I am wishing we could go back to where we had pretty summer blooms in season and warm weather! However, this session is a bit misleading because — it was actually raining as I snapped Amanda’s bridal portraits. The Terry House was the perfect spot for us to stay dry but still get that beautiful greenery and natural light in the photographs! I love that it is not even noticeable that it was a little less than perfect weather for these – and I think they still turned out stunning! Of course Amanda is so easy to photograph! So today I will just stay inside in my cozy house dreaming of these beautiful blooms while I sip hot chocolate – yum! Excited to share these! <3

Tory + Britt | Little Rock, AR Engagements

I can’t tell you how relaxed these two seemed at their engagement session with one another. They were so at ease, which made my job so easy! I loved catching up with Tory and meeting Britt! Sometimes there are couples that you just click with instantly as a photographer and that definitely happened while I was shooting these two! Every single pose was perfect and they just made everything look so natural through my lens. Next July we will capture more of these two — on their WEDDING! It will be here before we know it! Congrats you two! <3

Samantha + Matthew Brown | Little Rock, AR Family Photos

We had the pleasure of working with Samantha and Matthew when they tied the knot in April — so when they asked us to photograph their Christmas card photos, we couldn’t have been more excited! We have loved getting to capture their milestones; thank you both so much for everything! It is always so great to see you two! <3

Check out their sweet pups, they were the cutest!

Kendra + Steven James | Mayflower, AR Wedding

Kendra and Steven are two of the kindest souls. This was a bride that started out as a friend, but we grew even closer as we worked together. She is fun, always laughing and has the sweetest spirit. Steven matches her just the same! From eating ice cream during their engagement photos all the way to the big day – we had a blast. We couldn’t be more blessed to call these two our friends! Cheers!

XO!

Amanda + Hayden | Little Rock, AR Wedding

We didn’t know Amanda and Hayden before booking their wedding but we fell so in love with their personalities along the way. The way they laugh with one another is so touching to watch – you can see exactly what I am talking about in their first look photos; their reactions during the first look are something else!

Amanda is a planner by nature and I knew everything she touched regarding her wedding would turn to gold, everything was so autiful! From her makeup, to her florals – this wedding and the bride were both gorgeous! And their families – we LOVED their families, they made us feel so appreciated and we can’t thank them enough for that. Check out their June wedding! We are in love!

Maggie and John are some of my favorite clients, ever! Maggie was always sending me the sweetest notes and texts when we were in the pre-wedding phase and that girl always just makes my day! I love how these two have such genuine love for one another – and it shows.

I have loved working with them – they even did a Christmas shoot with me BEFORE they were engaged when they got their first puppy, Zeus! I know that we will be photographing these two for years to come (I know because Maggie told me in a sweet note she wrote me!) And that makes me SO EXCITED! I love these two and I am so happy I am able to show them off on the blog this evening!

(p.s.- check out her killer shoes – LOVE!)

Margo + Christian Biggs | Little Rock, AR Wedding

Margo and Christian are two of the kindest and cutest people ever, y’all! They were the most laid back couple and we loved every second that we got to work with them. Christian is in the military and I loved that Margo wanted to carry the American theme throughout their wedding photos. We incorporated the flag into their engagements, her bridals and even their sweet wedding day (check out this EXIT, swooooon – it was perfect!

Their wedding took place at a beautiful church in Little Rock and their reception was held in downtown Little Rock at the Albert Pike Hotel. It was our first time to take photos at Albert Pike and we really loved the elegance of this historic building. Check out their sweet day!

Brighton Gilbert | Oklahoma High School Senior

When Brighton booked her senior session we were SO flattered – this girl and her sweet mom drove 6 hours from Oklahoma to have us take them! We couldn’t believe that she wanted to use us so badly, but we couldn’t be more thankful! A huge thank you to both D1 in Little Rock and the Sherwood Sports Complex for letting us use their facilities. We couldn’t have done this shoot without both of them being so kind to us! We hope your senior year is amazing, Brighton! Thank you for making our whole year by driving so far for this session! We hope you love them as much as we do!

<3 Callie and Jaison

Sydney and Matt are precious and this is one of our favorite engagement sessions to date! Jaison shot this all on his own and I am loving his film photos scattered throughout the blog post, he did an amazing job with these (plus they are super adorable, right?!) We can’t wait for their wedding this September at Cold Springs in Little Rock. For now we will be swooning over these engagements!

XOXO!

I am gushing over these two & how cute they are! I was so tempted to add in all of their silly images to their blog post. John kept Jessica  and I both laughing the entire shoot with his jokes and goofy faces. It was really such a sweet session with two wonderful individuals.

It will be November before we know it, and they will be back in Little Rock to tie the knot! So excited!
